The European Parliament increased quotas for Ukrainian agricultural products

“Deputies at the European Parliament voted for an increase in the amount of temporary additional trade preferences for the import of Ukrainian agrarian and food products,” writes Agro-Center with reference to Interfax.

The decision to add preferences was approved by 566 votes to 96, with 28 abstentions. European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA) has proposed to raise the quota for Ukrainian honey and make it 2.5 thousand tons, processed tomatoes – 3 thousand tons, grape juice – 500 tons, oats – 4 thousand tons, wheat – 65 thousand tons, corn – 625 thousand tons, barley – 325 thousand tons, cereals and grains – 7,8 thousand tons.

“The preferences will be introduced for a term of up to three years as an addition to the A Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU. This decision should be approved by the Council of the EU later in July,” wrote the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Trade Representative of Ukraine Natalia Mykolska on her Facebook page.

According to the information from the European Parliament, a condition for granting Ukraine trade preferences is the fight against corruption in the country.
As a result of the negotiations between the European Commission, the Council of the EU and European deputies, the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA) has proposed to raise the quota for Ukrainian honey and make it 2.5 thousand tons, processed tomatoes – 3 thousand tons, grape juice – 500 tons, oats – 4 thousand tons, wheat – 65 thousand tons, corn – 625 thousand tons, barley – 325 thousand tons, cereals and grains – 7,8 thousand tons.
Ukraine can supply 36 types of products to the EU duty-free within the limits of the approved volumes of tariff quotas.

The volumes of tariff quotas are provided by autonomous trade preferences of the EU. Wheat – 950 thousand tons, barley – 250 thousand tons, corn – 400 thousand tons, sugar – 20 thousand tons, honey – 5 thousand tons, processed tomatoes – 10 thousand tons, grape and apple juice – 10 thousand tons, oats – 4 thousand tons, garlic – 500 tons.
