Prices for potatoes in Ukraine fell by a quarter

For the first time since the beginning of the season, prices for potatoes at the Ukrainian wholesale markets have fallen to last year’s level. According to “Info-Shvvar”, during the last week, prices have fallen by almost 24%, writes “Agro-Center”.

Thus, at the biggest market in the western region, “Shuvar”, potatoes cost 2-3.2 UAH/kg (0.06-0.1 EUR/kg). At the Stolichny market in Kyiv, prices are in the range of 3.3-3.5 UAH/kg (0.1-0.11 EUR/kg), sellers in the Nezhdani market in the Kherson region offer potatoes at 3.5- 4 UAH/kg (0.11-0.13 EUR/kg).

It should be mentioned that since the beginning of the mass harvest of late potatoes, prices for the product have been steadily higher than last year by 25-30%. However, in September, the market began to follow a tendency to lower prices, which strengthened considerably during last week. It should be noted that in the neighboring Poland, from which we often import potatoes, the situation in the market is very similar. Potatoes in Warsaw, at one of the largest wholesale markets in Bronis, cost between 0.05 and 0.09 EUR/kg, that is, even cheaper than in Ukraine.

Prices for potatoes in Poland fell by 10% over the past week.
