Ukrainians will consume mainly domestic pork
According to the analytical department of the Association “Pig Breeders of Ukraine”, during the three summer months, imports of fresh, chilled and frozen pork amounted to 10.5 thousand tons. It is eight times more than during the same period last year, writes “Agro-Center”.
Compared to 2017, this year Ukraine imported 7.5 times more pork – 15.7 thousand tons. The cost is estimated at almost 30 million dollars.
The volumes of pork export are somewhat smaller. Approximately 1.3 thousand tons of Ukrainian pork were exported to Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Georgia. It is 3 thousand tons less than in 2017.
However, domestic pork production covers the needs of the Ukrainian market by more than 90%. Therefore, Ukrainians will consume mainly meat of domestic pigs. Imported pork, for the most part, will be used by meat processors.
