Germany: “Ukraine is a powerful partner in agribusiness”

Ukraine is a country with incredible agrarian potential. It contributes to its cooperation with other countries in the agricultural sphere, writes Agro-Center.

On Tuesday, September 18th, a meeting of the German-Ukrainian Agrarian Committee was held. It was the 15th meeting within the framework of the project. Similar events take place annually. Their main goal is to assess the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation. The meeting considered an implementation of joint cooperative projects in the agri-industrial complex and discussed new promising directions for further cooperation in the agrarian sector.

Ukraine was represented by Olga Trofimtseva, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for European Integration, and Germany – by Michael Stübgen, Parliamentary Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany.

“I am grateful to the German colleagues for their active cooperation in bilateral agrarian products trade. There is a positive dynamic of trade which increased by 223.9 million dollars and amounted to 846.9 million dollars in 2017 “,

said Olga Trofimtseva, Deputy Minister for European Integration.

Olga Trofimtseva noted the effectiveness of cooperation with Germany in the framework of bilateral cooperation projects will help to create a stable basis for the development of foreign trade of Ukrainian agriculture.

Michael Stübgen noted that Germany does not plan to terminate cooperation because it sees Ukraine as a very powerful agricultural partner with great potential in the international market.

Currently, 1/5 of the general budget is used for the implementation of five bilateral international projects. The projects are being funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany.

“We are considering a lot of areas for fruitful cooperation. In particular, cooperation in the forestry sector, veterinary sector and training of highly skilled specialists for working with the latest agricultural technologies”,

summed up Olga Trofimtseva.

These Ukraine’s and Germany’s joint projects business are currently operating in agribusiness:

– Project “Promoting the development of vocational education in agrarian colleges of Ukraine”;
– German Agricultural Research Center in Ukraine;
– German-Ukrainian Agrarian-Political Dialogue (APD);
– Project in the field of ecological agriculture;
– Project “Advising Ukraine on Agrarian Trade within the framework of DCFTA between EU and Ukraine”.
