Ukraine without meat: production is decreasing, prices are growing
Since the beginning of 2018, prices for meat in Ukraine have grown by almost a quarter. Prices for beef have increased by 30%, and prices for pork – by 15%. Also, experts noted that pork production is decreasing in Ukraine, writes “Agro-Center”.
During the seven months of the current year, pork production in Ukraine decreased by almost 10%. In January-July, 120 thousand tons of meat was produced, which is 9,4% less than in the same period last year.
“Prices for beef are growing as a result of the decrease in cattle population due to low profitability of livestock. In addition, the payback period of investments in this sector can reach ten years, which determines the risks,”
noted experts.
At the same time, experts said that the development of export is a promising area for meat business.
“In the foreign market, in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, in particular, Ukrainian manufacturers have several advantages: cattle feed in Ukraine is relatively cheap, and delivering products is more convenient as Ukraine is located closer than the main countries-exporters – Brazil, India, Australia,”
noted Pro-Consulting.
The experts also said that prospective segments for pork export will be the post-Soviet states, as well as the Far East.
