Norwegian scientists will grow vegetables in space

In 2021, scientists at the Norwegian Science and Technology University (NTNU) plan to grow beans in space. After that they plan to cultivate other vegetables at the International Space Station, writes “Agro-Center”.

In order to get to Mars, one has to stay in space for at least a year. Cosmonauts, who often suffer from a loss of appetite, are only given foods in vacuum packaging.

Therefore, the development of technologies for growing vegetables and greens in space is one of the main goals of researchers.

Scientists have already conducted all the necessary tests. The next step is the cultivation of beans in space. They will be placed in a centrifuge, which will be rotated to create gravity. Lettuce cultivation experiments have already been finished. It was grown in artificial soil.
