Leasing Land in Ukraine Is More Expensive than in the EU Countries

Leasing agricultural land in Ukraine is more expensive than in some countries in the European Union, according to Olga Khodakivska, deputy director of the National Science Center “Institute of Agrarian Economy”, writes “Agro-Center”.

According to the expert, leasing state-owned land in Ukraine for a year has reached an average of 120 euros/ha, and leasing private land nowadays costs 100-105 euros/ha.

Meanwhile, in Slovakia it is 50 euro/ha, in Latvia – 57 euro/ha, in Estonia – 58 euro/ha, in Croatia – 69 euro/ha, in Lithuania – 99 euro/ha, and in the Czech Republic – 104 euro/ha. In Slovenia, it is 134 euro/ha, in Spain – 148 euro/ha, in Hungary – 160 euro/ha, and in Sweden – 160 euro/ha.

The scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economy conducted research, the results of which show that prices for leasing state-owned lands in some regions of Ukraine, such as Khmelnitsky (278 euros/ha), Vinnytsia (255 euros/ha) and Poltava (237 euros/ha), and for leasing private lands in Cherkasy region (250 euros/ha) have already exceeded those in France (215 euros/ha), Luxembourg (244 euros/ha) and are reaching prices in Austria (288 euros /ha) and Ireland (295 euros/ha).

Also, the form of land lease payments is changing. In particular, the share of cash payments is 60%, compared to 25% in 2010.
