Police Forcefully Dispersed a Farmers’ Protest
In Poland, farmers are demanding more effective control of African swine fever, including the killing of animals that spread the virus, writes “Agro-Center”.
“The problem with the animals caused by ASF has been harming in the village for years. We have been complaining since 2004 that there are too many boars that spread the disease but no visible action had been taken. For this reason, the number of pigs on farms is decreasing at an alarming rate,”
said Andrzej Vashchuk, one of the coordinators of the movement in the Lublin province.
The protesters had boards with slogans: “Give Money for Hunting”; “Choose: Farmers or Boars, Food or Entertainment”; “Kill the Boar, not the Farmer.” They also displayed banners from AGROunia and the Polish Farmers’ Union.
Warsaw Police Spokesman Sylvester Marchak told PAP that police had to use force.
“The police asked law-abiding protesters to disperse. The situation did not change, so the police had to use force,”
said Sylvester Marchak.
