Scandalous Farm Was Closed in Zhytomyr Region
The court decided to suspend the activity of Profuna LLC. Activists and residents of the village of Singury, where the enterprise is located, spoke in support of the closure of the scandalous mink farm, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to UNIAN.
The decision was made by the Zhytomyr District Administrative Court.
“Temporarily suspend the activity of the Profuna LLC in Singury, where minks are grown, until such company receives a positive environmental impact assessment,”
was stated in the court’s decision.
Both representatives of the company and activists who were happy with the court’s decision attended the hearing.
“Victory in court! The State Inspectorate has just won a lawsuit against a Dutch businessman’s farm in Singury. The court suspended the farm’s activity (air pollution) until the company receives a positive environmental impact assessment,”
commented Ruslan Khomenko, the organizer of the protest.
According to activists, the mink farm pollutes the environment and operates without proper permits. Environmentalists support activists.
“Singury locals are against the activities of cruel and dirty production and will testify at public hearings. The decision may be appealed but we are ready to defend it in the court,”
added Ruslan Khomenko.
The owner of the farm is a foreigner. He opened a farm in Ukraine after fur production was banned in his country.
It is difficult to control the activity of mink farms in Ukraine because old environmental standards have been canceled and new ones have not yet been implemented.
