“Green” energy from sunflower husks to be produced in the Vinnitsa region

The Vinnytsia region will produce “green” energy from sunflower husks at the ViOil’s “Vinnytsia Oil and Fat Production Plant”, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to “Ukrinform”.

This was stated by Yaroslav Belinsky, the Deputy Chairman of the Board on Technical Issues of the PJSC “Vinnytsia Oil and Fat Production Plant”.

“The sunflower oil production’s by-product is sunflower husk. In this project, we will burn it like biomass in a boiler, which will produce high-pressure steam. It will pass through a turbine and produce electricity. It is a cogeneration system. The estimated cost of the project is about 20 million dollars,”

said Belinsky.

According to Yaroslav Belinsky, the project is at the stage of documentation development. At present, the management of the company is involved in solving the issue of financing the project, the estimated cost of which will be about 20 million dollars, and the estimated payback period is 5 years. The project will take 18 months to implement.

The estimated amount of “green” energy the plant will be able to produce is from 7 to 9 MW. It will be sold according to the “green” energy tariff. The power of the cogeneration unit will be determined by the balance of fuel, as at this time a part of sunflower husk is used by the enterprise for its own needs, and the excess is pelletized and sold as fuel.
