Extremely Poor Potato Crops in 2019

According to the “Studio 3” by TRK, farmers were unpleasantly surprised by potato harvests in 2019. The farmers don’t remember such bad crops, writes “Agro-Center”.

Vera Danylyuk, a 72-year-old resident of the village of Cherniyiv, will harvest only 2/3 of the crop this year. However, the woman says that she will not stop planting potatoes.

Crop failures were registered in all villages of the Ivano-Frankivsk region because of the weather. This year, farmers in the region have planted nearly 50,000 hectares of potatoes. It is slightly more than last year. The yield decreased by 20%.

“Last year we got a record harvest – over one million tons of potatoes. This year, unfortunately, because of the daily rains that took place in May, potatoes have a lot of starch, which has affected the yield. This year we expect to receive about 800 thousand tons. This will be enough to ensure the food security of the region,”

said Ivan Andriyshyn, Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration.
