“Two Apples on One Tree”: A Miracle Garden in the Kherson Region
The “Dnipro” agricultural company located in the village of Azovske, in Genichesky district, collected the first harvest of precious apples: Golden, Red Jonaprince and Champion. The seedlings were purchased last year from a Polish company “Sulek”. Today, the garden grows on an area of twelve hectares, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to “Novy Den”.
“Usually, the first harvest is prevented as the flowers are cut off. It is done for the tree to become stronger. But we decided to leave two apples on each tree to see what they look like. The apples were juicy and sweet, 7-8 centimeters in diameter. Next year, we are expecting ten tons of apples from each hectare of our young garden,”
said the Head of the company Alexander Kistechok.
Even though this year’s harvest is half the size of last year’s, farmers weren’t affected much. The price of apples increased to 10 hryvnias per kilogram and buyers are still lining up.
The apple garden grows with the use of drip irrigation. The area has already reached 260 hectares. New agricultural technologies and productive apple varieties are used on the farm.
The company is also proud of its employees. About 60 residents of the neighboring villages in Rivne and Stockopani regions, and the village of Rikovo, are employed by “Dnipro”. Employees say that salaries at the company are good so that they don’t have to think about going to Poland, Spain or Italy to make some money.
The farmers are convinced that to get a good harvest one has to work hard and also introduce the latest achievements of agricultural technologies, be attentive and kind to every young tree. Mother Nature will take care of everything else.
