Locals in Volyn Restore the Wild Boar Population

Press service of the Volyn Regional Department of Forestry and Hunting reports that the state-owned enterprise “Starovyzhivske Forestry” is working on the development of open-air farms and restoration of the wild boar population in the region, writes “Agro-Center”.

Due to the spread of the ASF virus, the wild boar population has decreased significantly and therefore needs to be restored. Director of the State Forestry Anatoliy Yarmolyuk said that in recent years three places for breeding pigs have been built.

There are about one hundred boars in the forests of Starizhiv. The total area is 1.10 hectares. 25 boars already have children.

“This year, we have released first piglets and seen them join the wild boars. Next year we will release both adult and young pigs,”

says Anatoliy Yarmolyuk.

According to the information, hunting management is a daily hard work aimed at the result. Especially during the cold season, when the animals need to be fed constantly. For this purpose, foresters are preparing fodder throughout the year.
