Sweet business: Ukraine exports sugar in large quantities

Ukraine has provided itself with sugar and will be able to export it, writes Agro-Center with reference to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. However, this year we will ship less than last year.

In total, there are 46 sugar factories in Ukraine. They have already produced one and a half million tons of sugar at an internal demand of 1.49 million tons. It is expected that this year about two million tons of sugar will be produced – like last year. The export potential is estimated at 460 tons of sugar. Last year, 770 thousand tons were exported.

Sri Lanka, Georgia, and Turkey imported a lot. The sugar beet collection is still underway, already 13,5 tons have been harvested, and the yield is 454 centners per hectare.
