Making Borscht Became Cheaper
A significant decrease in prices for vegetables for borscht happened during the first week of November. Analysts at “Shuvar” OSPP say that there was a real decrease in prices for certain products, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to “Info.shuvar”.
Prices for cabbage decreased the most – by 30% to 3.0-3.2 UAH/kg in a week.
Prices for beets decreased by 25%, and prices for potatoes have been decreasing for three weeks now.
“A November decrease in prices for vegetables needed for making borscht is normal for the market. Farmers sell the amount they do not wish to store long-term. The prices for certain products decreased even more than last year. Ukrainian farmers’ attempt to raise prices for onions in late October was unsuccessful, and the product became even cheaper. Potatoes are an exception, at the moment, but prices for the product will also fall in the future,”
explained Tatiana Getman, Head of Analytics at “Shuvar”.
According to “Info-Shuvar”, the borscht set, except for potatoes, consists entirely of products grown by Ukrainian farmers.
