For the first time in the last 14 years, watermelons from the Kherson region will swim to Kyiv on a barge along the Dnieper RiverKyiv. Such a fundamental change in logistics will allow to reduce transportation costs and make it more secure, writes Agro-Center.

Farmers of the Golopristansky and Skadovsky districts of the Kherson region together with the “Nibulon” company have sent the first watermelon barge to Kyiv. Thus, the cost of watermelons will decrease from 1 hryvnia to 60-65 kopek, and the risk of product damage will become less as well. In two months, barges will make about 50 trips every day. During the departure of the first barge, entrepreneurs convinced people that watermelons are organic and tasty.

Now, the group of farmers plans to enter the markets of Europe and compete with Spain, Greece, and Italy.

By the way, a batch of watermelons without seeds, created by local breeders was sent from the Kherson region.
