Success Story: Mushrooms from Hutsulshchyna Conquer the World
The “Gifts of Hutsulshchyna” company was founded by residents of the village of Putyly and other neighboring villages. During the season, the cooperative processes up to 20 tons of products. One can find the products on the shelves of “Silpo”, “Metro”, and “Walmart”, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to “Holos Ukrainy”.
The company is managed by Sergey Teren. During the season, the Chernivtsi cooperative processes up to 20 tons of produce, and locals earn 1,000 hryvnias per day.
Sergiy Teren says that locals collect mushrooms for themselves, and cannot sell the rest on the markets or in the stores. That’s why the cooperative was created.
When the owners decided to start a cooperative, they chose between meat, milk, and fodder directions. Sergey supported the processing of mushrooms, so he was elected manager. The “Local Development” project helped to bring “Gifts of Hutsulshchyna” to life.
The project took half a year to complete. They received a grant for 600 thousand hryvnias and started processing mushrooms collected by locals in 2015. Currently, the cooperative employs 30 residents and has given jobs to thousands. During the first year, the cooperative earned 1.5 million hryvnias, which were distributed. One can earn from one to two thousand hryvnias a day, and even 100 thousand during one season. But prices are dictated by the market. At the moment, mushrooms are sold for 100 hryvnias per kilogram.
