The number of cattle is rapidly decreasing in Ukraine
Over the past year, six regions of Ukraine have increased the number of cattle. The State Statistics Service of Ukraine has recently made the information public. Data looks optimistic, writes Agro-Center.
In one year, the number of cattle has decreased from 3750.3 to 3682.3 thousand heads. A decline in the number of cattle has been observed since 2014. Despite this, some regions have managed to increase the number of animals. Among them: Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsya, Sumy, Zaporozhye and Mykolaiv regions. Statistics are provided for farms of different categories.
A full statistic summary can be viewed here. In particular, the number of livestock in households is decreasing. Thus, in Rivne region, the number of cattle has decreased by 4 thousand, in Lviv – by 8 thousand.
“The number of ivestock will continue to decline until people start uniting into cooperatives. For example, a cooperative that consists of several villages can buy a large refrigerator for milk. Farmers will choose a manager who will control the reception of milk and be engaged in sales. Then, small manufacturers will be able to sell milk but for a decent price. Only by uniting and creating a cooperative, village dwellers will be able to sell not 10-20 liters and 4.5 hryvnias per liter, but 10 tons and 9 hryvnias per liter. However, it will take another five years to increase cattle herds, in order to see the results”,
– says the head of Agro-Center, Dmytro Solomchuk.
It should be noted that according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the number of all animals in all categories of farms has been decreasing for several years. Only in some industries and in some regions there is a slight increase.
