Finland’s beekeepers are working on a new bee species that will tolerate winters better. More than a dozen farmers are involved in the project. The work began in 2017. Recently, specialists managed to get the first results, writes “Agro-Center”.
The Beekeepers’ Union informs that for a long time the country imported bee uterus’ from abroad. But they are not always fully adapted to Finland’s climatic conditions. The main task of the project is the creation of qualitative hereditary material in queen bees since it determines the further characteristics of bee families.
It should be noted that at present there are more than 3200 bee farms in the country. About a hundred of them are professional. The main products are honey, flower pollen, and beeswax.
