Surprise Inside: Italians Presented a New Apple Variety
The Red Moon variety was created in Italy by Clementi Srl and Bio Meran. Apples of this variety have a red peel and are also red inside, writes “Agro-Center”.
“In Madrid, Red Moon apples are in demand. We have shown and offered to taste freshly harvested fruits to buyers from different countries. The attractive red color and high anthocyanin content make apples of this variety quite popular. It is a truly new product that attracts attention and generates sales. The Red Moon variety doesn’t compete with other apple varieties. It is perceived as a mix of apples and berries or pomegranates,”
said Jurgen Brown, co-owner of Kiku Variety Management, Red Moon’s partner company.
The developers also explained that the Red Moon variety is still the only brand that produces 100% red apples with red pulp grown in Italy. At the moment, 100 hectares are allocated for this variety in the most suitable areas of Alto Adige and Veneto. This year, 1.5 thousand tons of apples were harvested, some of which are biological and biodynamic.
Deliveries of Red Moon apples to Germany, the Benelux countries and Scandinavia will begin soon.
