The US Companies Spent $30 Million on Advertising of a New Apple Variety
Cosmic Crisp, a new apple variety, is being heavily advertised in the US. The creators are convinced that these apples are sweeter, juicier and crunchier than any other variety. They can also be stored in the refrigerator for 10 to 12 months without losing taste properties. Millions of dollars are spent on advertising of the Cosmic Crisp, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to Studway.
The variety was created at the University of Washington as the result of crossing two existing varieties – Honeycrisp and Enterprise.
The name “Cosmic Crisp” was given to the apples of this variety for their color. The fruits are dark red with white spots, which look like the starry sky.
Some so many people wanted to buy the rights to grow the new variety that the farmers had to take part in a computer lottery.
This scheme of growing and promoting fruit is considered to be the largest and fastest in the history of apples. It cost about $ 30 million.
By 2027, Cosmic Crisp will be available worldwide. At the moment, the price in the US is $ 5 per half a kilogram.
