A fire on a dairy farm killed 800 cows

An explosion occurred at one of Manitoba’s largest dairy farms. The farm contained about 1,000 cows. Only 200 animals survived. 60 firefighters from 5 communities responded to the call, writes “Agro-Center”

The Steinbach Fire Department reported that 800 cows were killed in the fire.

Christina Brown, who lives on a nearby farm, said she didn’t understand what was happening when she first heard the sirens.

“I went to open the door and heard the cows screaming,”

said Christina.

“Probably there were about 1,000 animals in the barn at the time. Firefighters managed to save only 200,” said Steinbach Fire Chief Kelvin Tows.

He said it was probably the biggest fire on the farm.

“We have had similar cases where we lost one or two cows, but this time the losses are much greater,”

said Tows.

This area of Canada is one of the largest dairy producers in the province, according to Manitoba dairy farmers. An average dairy farm has 130 cows. Therefore, the loss of so many cows will greatly affect the supply of milk.
