Islands for recreation for urban bees and bumblebees were set up in the Netherlands
The Dutch city of Utrecht is expanding biodiversity in a very unusual way. About 316 bus stops there were planted with hare cabbage to help honey bees and bumblebees. Cabbage also helps to capture fine dust and store rainwater, writes “Agro-Center”.
“A green roof helps the city cope with climate problems,”
is stated on the city’s website.
The process was carried out by workers using modern technologies and natural materials.
Also, by the end of 2019, it is planned to buy 55 electric buses in the city, and by 2028 – create a completely safe for the public transportation system.
City officials hope the green roof trend will take hold: today, residents of the city can apply for funding to transform the roofs of their homes.
It’s all part of a grand plan to create a greener city. Perhaps it will set an example for other cities.
