The quota for fertilizer import to be introduced in Ukraine
The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, and Agriculture proposed to introduce quotas on fertilizer imports. This was announced by Deputy Minister, Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka.
Agro-Center tells more about it.
According to Taras Kachka, the proposed quotas will be close to the current actual import.
“Imports in Ukraine are slowly moving towards such parameters. We propose making them fixed,” said the sales representative.
The decision is generally aimed at protecting the national producer and eventually balancing the mineral fertilizer market, which has been fluctuating for more than a year, destabilizing the work of the whole agro-industrial complex.
“In the domestic market, competition is achieved through a normal balance between production and imports. At the international level, the national producer competes with foreign companies in both domestic and international markets. We need to protect ourselves from overproduction in the region (particularly in Turkey). And given the role of gas in the production of fertilizers, this issue is already gaining geopolitical shape,” said Taras Kachka.
