Biofuel research in the Ternopil region
In Ternopil region, in the city of Borshchov, specialists will explore renewable energy opportunities in partnership with Norwegian researchers. They will work in a new scientific and technical center “Bioenergy”, writes “Agro-Center”.
Ukraine is one of the countries with great potential in the renewable and alternative energy sector. Biofuel market in Ukraine is only beginning to develop. According to the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, the potential of renewable energy sources in Ukraine is 98 million tons of fuel per year. In particular: bioenergy – 31 million tons, wind power – 28 million tons, solar power – 6 million tons. It is more than 40% of the total energy balance of the country.
Therefore, in the Ternopil region, researchers will grow energy crops and use them as biomass for fuel production.
The Norwegian International Foundation “Energy Farm” and the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving signed a memorandum on renewable energy development. It is expected that such cooperation will attract global innovations and contribute to the implementation of projects that may help Ukraine to switch to biofuels.
The “Energy Farm” is an international foundation which aims to explore the use of various types of renewable energy sources (growing energy crops, energy production from biomass).
