Exotic Farming in Lviv: A Farmer Grows and Sells Bananas
The first banana farm started operating in the Lviv region. Exotic fruits are grown in the village of Lipniki, Pustomitivskiy district, ten kilometers from Lviv, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to ZAXID.NET.
In addition to bananas, the farm grows about 30 varieties of exotic plants. These include bananas, coffee trees, lemons, limes, kumquats, and pomegranates.
The owner of the farm is 44-year-old Andrew Trush. The man had been growing exotic plants for about two and a half years. Andrew sells all his exotic plants. The farmer shared that his clients are now mostly designers who buy trees as decoration.
The farmer grows exotic plants in a greenhouse. At the entrance, there is a special boiler, which heats about two tons of water, which is pumped through the greenhouse pumps. This system keeps the greenhouse warm.
“A banana plant is not as durable as, for example, a lemon plant, because the lemon plant grows for years. Banana seedlings grow normally at home for one or two years. We prepare seedlings, using a lot of organic matter, before selling them. 99.9% is organic matter that we add to the soil. The banana plant grows wonderfully if properly watered and given certain mineral supplements,”
said Andrew Trush.
