A purple season: a farmer from Vinnytsia created a new corn variety
A sweet corn festival “VinCornFest” will take place in the central park in Vinnytsia. Guest will have an opportunity to taste dishes made from 20 varieties of sweet corn, writes “Agro-Center”.
The organizers say that there will be several locations at the festival: one for training farmers, one for learning about characteristics of domestic and imported corn varieties, one for children’s masterclasses and one for learning to cook with corn.
The key event of the festival will be a presentation of a new purple corn variety created by Mikhail Nagornyak, a farmer from Vinnytsia.
“Although the variety is still being researched, it is already on everyone’s radar and quite famous among farmers. Scientists from the state of Illinois in the US and the University of Zhejiang in China have established this corn to be beneficial to people with type 2 diabetes. Studies on rodents showed that rodents who ate purple corn weren’t obese and felt better than those who ate ordinary fodder,”
notes the organizer of the festival Dmitry Savchuk.
