Farmers Will Be Severely Punished for Burning Stover
The Supreme Court of India ordered the governments of the northern states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab to stop burning stover in fields immediately. In recent weeks, burning stover has led to air pollution in New Delhi reaching a critical level, writes “Agro-Center”.
Farmers replied that they were forced to burn stover because they don’t have the money for specialized equipment.
“If stover burning continues, all members of the administrations of these regions will be held accountable,” said the Indian Supreme Court in a statement and added that a failure to follow the rules will have “serious consequences”
for authorities of these regions.
