The EU plans to reduce pesticide use by 50%
The European Commission proposed several measures aimed at developing organic agricultural production in the EU, according to Reuters.
Agro-Center tells more about it.
In particular, it is planned to reduce the use of pesticides in the EU by 50% of the current level, chemical fertilizers – by 20%, sales of antimicrobials for livestock and fish – by 50% by 2030.
Also, the proposal includes the redistribution of land resources. In particular, the share of land for organic farming should be increased to 25% by 2030.
At the same time, many European farmers’ associations have criticized the initiative, arguing that organic production gives lower yields and limits farmers’ ability to respond to growing demand.
