The first turtle farm in Ukraine will be built in the Kharkiv region. Visitors of the farm will have an opportunity to see different turtle species such as Giant turtle, Central Asian turtle, Coal turtle, and Beetle turtle, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to “HorodX”.

Creators of the project say that the farm will not grow turtles for food. They promise to create comfortable conditions for the animals The main goal of the project is to the breeding of rare species in captivity.

“We already have a successful experience of breeding turtles in captivity. Thanks to the hard work of our staff and the invaluable help of Kharkiv biologists, four babies of one of the largest land reptiles were born for the first time in Ukraine. Now they are growing up safely, and there is a new laying of fifty eggs in the hatchery,”

said Andrey Gapchenko, head of the Feldman Ecopark Department of Science and Monitoring.

Specialists plan to go even further and arrange the reproduction of other rare species of turtles, especially those that are on the verge of extinction.

The “Cherepashya Ferma” project is not only concerned with the protection of the environment but also has a socio-humanitarian component. The turtles will be used for the development of testudo-therapy for children with special needs.
