Scientists have established what helps cows give more (research results)
In the United States, an experiment was conducted in order to study the effect the use of brushes has on cows. The results show that cows give by 1 kg (3.5%) more milk per day, and the number of animals with clinical mastitis decreases, writes “Agro-Center”.
For the experiment, the animals were divided into two groups. In the control group, the brushes were not used at all. Swivel brushes were used in the experimental group. Scientists monitored the results for six months.
The cows in the experimental group gave 3.5% more milk, and the number of cases of clinical mastitis decreased by 34%. Scientists believe that the massage effect of the brush improves blood circulation, which decreases the probability of the occurrence of stagnant phenomena that lead to mastitis.
Young animals should also be brushed as it helps them to socialize faster and without stress. Protection from parasites is also important. A satisfied calf grows and gains weight faster, and is able to enter the reproductive age earlier.
There are separate brushes with a different rigidity and length of bristles for calves. Access to “adult” models should be limited for calves.
