Animals and birds died because of agricultural pesticides in the Zaporizhia region (details)

Many animals and birds died in Yakymivsky district of the Zaporizhia region. Local hunters suspect that agrarians are to blame, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to “Interfax-Ukraine”.

Hundreds of dead bodies of rooks, pheasants, ravens, “red-book” predators – rough-legged buzzard and common buzzard – were found on March 7th by local hunters near turnip fields in the village of Limanskoye. Later it became known that birds and animals – foxes and dogs – died in other parts of the region as well.

Hunters assume that the animal life of the region has suffered from green grain used by agrarians to control rodents. It was detected in places where birds died.

Police patrol of the Kirillovsky subdivision of the Melitopol police department recorded the death of birds and animals. The investigation is being conducted. The Yakymiv Veterinary Service also conducts its own investigation of the incident.

The hunters of the Yakymivsky district reported that it’s not the first time such incidents took place in the area. Local authorities are concerned about the uncontrolled use of pesticides by agrarians, which threatens the lives of not only animals and birds, but also people.
