Half of bottled spring water is fake in Ukraine
In Ukraine, most of the water marketed as “spring water” is actually fake. There aren’t enough natural sources and operating wells in the country to produce the amount of “spring water” currently sold on the shelves of stores, writes “Agro-Center” with a reference to the UNN.
Svyatoslav Protas, former deputy head of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine, spoke about this:
“Believing that all water marketed as “spring water”, sold in stores, and exported abroad, is real spring water that comes from wells and other natural sources is absolutely insane as there aren’t enough spring water sources in Ukraine to produce such an amount of the product.”
The expert said that very often the water that is marketed as “spring water” is filtered water from the tap. According to Svyatoslav Protas, about half of so-called “spring water” is fake.
“It is not logical to pay for this water as current prices for spring water aren’t low,”
added Svyatoslav.
According to statistics, 80% of acquired diseases are due to poor-quality drinking water. This includes oncological diseases, dermatitis, eczema, arsenic, bronchitis, anemia, disorders of the thyroid gland, kidneys, and nervous system, cardiovascular system, a significant decrease in reproductive function in men. Therefore, the issue of the quality of drinking water is extremely important. From January 1, 2019, new criteria for checking the quality of fresh water will come in force in Ukraine. The state monitoring of surface water will be carried out according to biological, hydromorphological, chemical and physical-chemical indicators.
